Issue No. 1
Ubuntu football academy
I spent one year and some change living in Cape Town, South Africa, volunteering with Ubuntu Football Academy. Ubuntu is a non-profit soccer academy with a focus of mentoring and educating the next generation of leaders in South Africa. I wore several hats during my time with Ubuntu, but my main role was that of communications guru. There are right around 95 boys in the Ubuntu Football Academy, and my job was to share their stories with the world.
One of the ways we achieved this was through something tangible, a way to make our supporters feel more connected to the boys and their everyday lives. We created Growth, the first ever Ubuntu Football Magazine. I hope you enjoy it.
Our Impact
kids in The game 2019
I started working at Kids in the Game October 1st, and this Impact Report was one of my very first projects. This is the second ever edition of a Kids in the Game Impact Report, designed 100% in-house. This assignment not only came to me in a completely new city, company, and role, but in a collision with our full rebrand. I was able to work with two of my closest colleagues on this project — (and at that time, my newest) but I am really proud of what we created.
At Kids in the Game the work we do is rooted in our commitment to providing every kid in New York City with positive opportunities and experiences through sports and creative play. Through this report we’re excited to share with you all that we accomplished, and didn’t accomplish, in 2019. The sum of this report reflects the principles that guide every decision we make at Kids in the Game. The driving purpose of an impact report — setting goals, tracking our results, then improving when we fall short — reflects the core of who we are. This report covers the year 2019 and all that it held for us. Our commitment to New York City and the kids we serve is what motivates us every day. It’s a journey we are proud of. We will continue to challenge and stretch ourselves to achieve even more in 2020. Thanks for being a part of our story!
kids in the game 2020
When we entered lockdown at the end of March 2020, almost everything that we did as an organization was adjusted, adapted, and evolved. Like everyone, the challenges kept coming. When we sat down to think about how we wanted to present our impact that year — the only way that felt natural was to take you through our 2020 journey — starting at the beginning.
